Outline planning application for a development of up to 160,000 sq ft, with detailed design to be developed under future reserved matters applications.
The B1(b), B1(c) and B8 uses proposed for the site will sit within an established urban fabric which has been characterised in recent years by a transformation from heavy manufacturing, mainly associated with the chemical industry, into a modern, cleaner and more diverse business zone. Therefore it is envisaged that the proposed buildings would form part of the emerging visual character of the surrounding area.
A scheduled historic monument, the former Rockingham anti-aircraft battery, effectively divides the site into two. The monument is currently at risk due to extensive overgrowth and vegetation encroaching upon and undermining the surviving remains. As part of the proposed scheme the surrounding area will be sympathetically landscaped, which will enhance the survival and setting of the monument.
